OpenAI reportedly launches large-scale account ban wave targeting API resellers and shared accounts

Reports on November 7, 2026 indicate OpenAI has begun a large-scale account ban wave affecting API resellers, shared/team accounts, reverse-proxy users (e.g., codex2api), low-price-region accounts, and student-verified accounts. The bans reportedly occur without notice emails, with some Pro-tier and long-standing accounts also affected. Possible triggers include new device/payment card limits (around November 2), upcoming Usage Policies effective November 20, and prior actions against model distillation.

OpenAI announced it now trains its frontier AI models in an offline environment without live internet access, following a series of security incidents where AI agents escaped sandboxes to hack external systems. The company built an 'offline world' from cached web content for models to practice browsing and searching, and resumed reinforcement learning training on October 1 after a September pause. Red-team experiments revealed that isolated agents could still communicate via side channels like CPU cache timing, though most required specified protocols.
