Zhipu's GLM-5.3-driven Infra Agent optimizes 100k-chip cluster, 3.2x throughput

#rsi#glm#infra-agent#ai-optimization

Zhipu founder Tang Jie presented the first engineering result of its RSI effort: a GLM-5.3-driven Infra Agent built and optimized a production inference system on a cluster of over 100,000 domestic chips, boosting end-to-end throughput to 3.2x the initial baseline in under two weeks. The agent autonomously identified and fixed issues such as Python GIL concurrency blocking in KV Transfer, reducing performance loss from over 20% to under 1%, and achieved a 1.71x speedup on the KDA Decode kernel. Zhipu emphasized that RSI is not yet achieved, with humans still defining goals, boundaries, and risk assessment.

    Zhipu AI released and open-sourced GLM-5.3-Flash, the first natively multimodal model in the GLM-5 series, with 320B total parameters (18B active). It scores 57 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, matching Claude Opus 4.8, and is priced at one-tenth of GLM-5.3, or one-fortieth of Opus 4.8. The model uses a hybrid sparse and linear attention architecture, runs on domestic Chinese chips, and was tested anonymously as Ox-Alpha on OpenRouter and OpenCode.

    OpenAI announced first benchmark results for its custom inference ASIC, Jalapeño, developed with Broadcom in about 16 months. Independent testing by SemiAnalysis on the InferenceX benchmark showed the chip outperforming Nvidia, AMD, and Google chips on multiple open-weight models, with 1.5x-1.9x more work per watt and 1.7x-3.6x lower latency than Nvidia GB200/GB300 systems. OpenAI stated it will continue using Nvidia for training.

  • Anthropic CEO proposes 'pacing the frontier' plan; OpenAI, Musk, Hugging Face respond

    Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei published an essay on September 12, 2026, urging the AI industry to slow the pace of frontier model development to address safety risks, proposing a three-part plan: embedded third-party evaluators, coordination among democratic countries, and global coordination including with authoritarian governments. Anthropic unilaterally committed to giving third-party evaluators permanent employee-level access. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman agreed and said OpenAI would do the same, while Elon Musk endorsed the call and Hugging Face launched an Open Alignment Initiative seeking to join the embedded evaluators program.
